New York, NY (September 2, 2010) – John P. Hyland, volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New Jersey in Morristown, NJ, has been named one of the 15 finalists in the national 2010 Community Leadership Awards. Specifically, Mr. Hyland is one of three finalists in the Community Service category.

The awards, presented by the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation and InvestmentNews, a weekly newspaper for financial professionals, recognizes financial advisers for their outstanding leadership and contributions to their communities. Winners will be announced at a dinner in New York on September 14. They will receive $10,000 for their charity; finalists’ charities will receive a $500 donation.

Mr. Hyland, managing partner of Morristown Financial Group, began volunteering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New Jersey in 1993 in honor of an aunt who had died of acute myeloid leukemia the year before. He has been a board member for 10 years and now serves as board president emeritus. He has helped successfully raise approximately $6 million a year, serving about 1,000 New Jersey patients and their families. The funding supports research and clinical trials, financial support for needy patients, education, support groups and peer-to-peer support.

Five award categories honor the volunteer spirit of financial advisers: Community Service Award, Global Community Impact Award, Mentoring Excellence Award, Volunteer Team Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.

Finalists were determined by a diverse panel of industry leaders and InvestmentNews editors, from hundreds of financial advisers nominated by members of the financial services industry. Finalists were selected based on their level of involvement, contributions and the impact of their efforts.
